Abstract

Orgulho e Preconceito, considerado como um dos melhores romances do conjunto de obras de Jane Austen, retrata a tradicional e conservadora sociedade inglesa do final do século XIX. Uma das características peculiares das composições realistas desta autora é o fato de o leitor poder encontrar um minucioso estudo crítico dos costumes e da burguesia local. Mesmo sendo educada sob os rigores do puritanismo inglês, Jane Austen era uma mulher sagaz e independente, sempre esteve à frente de seu tempo. Este temperamento forte e decidido é uma das marcas de suas heroínas. Fundamentadas nisso, esta pesquisa pretende analisar se as duas personagens, as irmãs Jane e Lizzy Bennet, são de fato as porta-vozes da autora. No sentido de que juntas, o lado racional (Elizabeth) e o idealismo romântico (Jane), representariam, sob a ótica da razão e da sensibilidade, a visão de mundo dessa autora que, inconformada, denuncia, dentre muitos fatores, as severas convenções sociais a que eram submetidas às mulher de seu tempo._______________________________________________________________________ABSTRACT Pride and Prejudice, considered one of the best novels of all works of Jane Austen, depicts the traditional and conservative English society of the late nineteenth century. One of the peculiar characteristics of realistic compositions of this author is that the reader can find a detailed critical study of the customs and the local bourgeoisie. Even being educated under the rigors of English Puritanism, Jane Austen was a shrewd and independent woman, has always been ahead of its time. This strong-willed and determined is one of the hallmarks of her heroines. Based on this, this research aims to examine whether the two characters, sisters Jane and Lizzy Bennet, are in fact the spokesmen of the author. In the sense that together, the rational side (Elizabeth) and romantic idealism (Jane), represent the perspective of reason and sensibility, the worldview of an author who, dissatisfied, denounces, among many factors, the strict conventions social woman who was the subject of his time.
